Born in Monroe (1971), a Martindale-Hubbell "AV" Preeminent peer review rated trial attorney, Mark graduated magna cum laude with a BBA from University of Louisiana- Monroe in 1993 and in 1996 earned his Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University. His undergraduate achievements included memberships in the honor societies Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi and Who's Who in American Universities.
Upon completing law school, Mark returned home to practice with Hudson, Potts and Bernstein, LLP. After 9 years as a full partner, he left in 2011 to create Mark J. Neal, APLC (Neal Law Firm).
In February 2017, Mark was invited to join the National Foundation for Judicial Excellence's Board of Directors.
Mark's professional affiliations have included American Inns of Court, American Bar Association, Louisiana State Bar Association and Louisiana Claims Association (former board member). He also served two (2) three (3) year terms as Director to Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel (LADC) and continues to serve the organization as a faculty and board member for its LADC Trial Academy which is held annually in New Orleans.
He is a former director for DRI-The Voice of the Defense Bar. Mark is a member of the invitation only organizations American Board of Trial Advocates and International Association of Defense Counsel. He served 6 years as attorney panel chairman for Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board. He is likewise a director of National Foundation for Judicial Excellence headquartered in Chicago.
Mark is licensed to practice in all Louisiana state and federal courts as well as the United States Supreme Court. His practice has extended to virtually every parish and appellate court in Louisiana. A trial attorney, Mark's primary areas of practice include civil litigation, including all matters of insurance defense, auto and trucking accident defense, insurance coverage, workers' compensation, legal malpractice and disciplinary defense, employment litigation, corporate and business litigation, municipal litigation and creditor's rights. He has tried over 170 jury and non-jury cases to judgment (first chair) in both state and federal courts throughout Louisiana. He has argued in excess of 60 cases to the various courts of appeal and is credited with as many reported decisions.
Mark was appointed by the governor to serve on the Louisiana Board of Ethics.
Mark is a University of Louisiana-Monroe trustee and past president of the University's Athletic Foundation, and continues to serve as the latter foundation's attorney. He is a former Monroe Youth Baseball Association board member and coach as well as an active member of Optimist International. He likewise serves on the Monroe Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee. Married to Rhonda Wray Neal since 1996, they are the proud parents of two boys: Noah (15) and Nathan (11).
